Orange Candy Ball, $400-$800, 6"x6"x9", 2009
My current work focuses on recreating that sense of wonder felt in childhood by simple visual effects like the swirling "snow" in a snow glob. This piece has a magical quality created by the infrared LED lights at the top which combined with the wax interior of a similar color to create the effect of ambiguous space. The orange ball is made from candy that I made. The batteries on the outside and the wiring expose the mystery of how the effect was made, giving it a "science project" feel.
This piece was chosen for the CSUN juried student show and won one of four Jurors Choice Awards.
