About Drawing

In past years the definition of drawing has begun to change. Drawing used to be thought of as part of the process leading to the more revered task of painting. Not only has drawing recently begun to stand on its own, apart from painting, but what we think of as drawing has begun to shift as well. (If you don't believe me, take a look at the work of Sol LeWit or Matthew Barney.) This is an exciting time to be making drawings!

Current Monster Drawings

Here are current monster drawings from the last three years. >>>>

Diagrams

The diagrams are really a twist on the organic alien quality of the monsters. They depict some cycle in the life of an imaginged organism or group of interdependent organisms. Sometimes they are meant to look more like a scientific text book or pamphlet. Away at a mediation retreat, it came to me that I have always done these strange alien organic forms. The one painting (now forever lost) that I made the summer after high school shows a sort of pumpkin patch of shapes that are sort of vomiting forth energy like a fountain out their tops. Funny how it all comes back around. >>>>
