Viscosity Print #27, $25-$125, 14"x18", 2010

This is a "viscosity print". The zinc plate is first inked in like a normal intaglio plate - the ink is vigorously rubbed into the marks etched into the plate. Then a large soft roller is loaded with ink of a different color and greater viscosity and rolled over the surface. The second layer basically floats on top of the first. Then the plate is run through the press and the image is transferred to paper.

This is a challenging process with a high failure rate. When it is successful, it takes about three hours from start to finish for each print.

In this series, there are actually two different plates used and since different colors are made each time, each print is unique.
